Online-Trialog “Health, Climate Protection, Value Enhancement – How Multiple Benefits can drive Energy-efficient Building Renovation”

The planned Trialog will now take place as an Online-Trialog on the topic “Health, Climate Protection, Value Enhancement – How Multiple Benefits can drive Energy-efficient Building Renovation” on April 3 2020. The webinar marks the final stakeholder event of the project “Multiple benefits as a driver of energy-efficient building renovation“. This project is carried out by the HUMBOLDT-VIADRINA Governance Platform in cooperation with the Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) and is funded by the German Federal Foundation for the Environment (DBU).
Background: We spend most of our time in closed buildings. The indoor environmental quality is therefore of crucial importance for our well-being and health. Nevertheless, the discussions about building renovation measures centre mainly about energy saving and the associated cost reduction. However, a high-quality renovation can bring many additional benefits. Not only on a social level, but also on a personal and business level: the value of the property enhances, tenant satisfaction increases, the living environment becomes more attractive and the health of the occupants improves.
Building on the results of previous project events it can be concluded that the currently very low annual renovation rate of less than one percent in Germany could be significantly higher. This would require both real estate companies and private homeowners to take greater account of non-energy benefits of renovation measures. How can these additional benefits be incorporated into concrete decision-making and consulting tools such as the individual renovation roadmap and what recommendations for the various stakeholder groups?
In the Online-Trialog, we would like to discuss these questions with you and other stakeholders from politics & administration, business, organised civil society and academia.
