CERV Project: Cities4Refugees

The programme "Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values" (CERV) of the European Union promotes projects on the topics of union values, equality, participation and violence prevention. Thanks to this funding, a consortium of solidary European cities such as Berlin, Villeurbane, Barcelona and Zagreb and several NGOs, including BGP, have joined forces under the project name "Cities4Refugees" was formed. The aim of the project is to Strategic networking and cooperation between European municipalities in the area of EU migration policy to push ahead.

 

"Cities4Refugees" was launched in 2023 and provides for a series of analogue and digital events over a total period of 14 months. The 2023 project activities will focus on the Networking between progressive European municipalities and EU decision-makers and politicians against the backdrop of the upcoming negotiations on the reform of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) and the EU elections. This dialogue will continue in 2024 after the Pact negotiations and during the European elections in order to review the role of welcoming, progressive municipalities in the reformed EU migration policy and to include their needs and innovative initiatives in the implementation of the reform.

Among other things, the project aims to support the European city network founded in June 2021. International Safe Haven Alliance (IASH) in its strategic advocacy work and knowledge sharing.

As part of the project consortium, Berlin Governance Platform is responsible for organising the event and providing strategic advice to the municipal partners.
