Start of our new project: “Who bears responsibility for the future of democracy?”
Today, liberal democracies offer their citizens a level of prosperity unequalled by any other political system. Nevertheless, the way it works on a day-to-day basis is viewed with increasing scepticism.
People’s lifeworlds are changing as a consequence of globalization and digitalization. The global Financial Crisis, the Panama Papers and the Diesel-Emissions-Scandal undermined citizen’s confidence in the economic system. And populistic partys are growing stronger and stronger in Europe.
The time has come to discuss how business, politics, organized civil society and academia can interact in a way that allows democracy and business to function together on a sustainable basis.
Therefore the Foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future” and the HUMBOLDT-VIADRINA Governance Platform starting the Trialog-series “Who bears responsibility for the future of democracy?”. We are setting the ball rolling with three one-day events that focus on the role of business in its interactions with politics and organized civil society.
The first Trialog “Democracy and the Market Economy: Strong only in Combination?” will take place on Monday, 17 September 2018, 9am – 5pm at Allianz Forum, Pariser Platz 6, 10117 Berlin.
Further information on the Trialog series you will find here.
