Dr. Malisa Zobel
Malisa Zobel is the program director of the Municipal Integration and Development Initiative (MIDI) and coordinates the project “Integration of Refugees as a Joint Municipal Development”. She joined the HUMBOLDT-VIADRINA Governance Platform in August 2018.
Malisa studied cultural studies and political science at the Humboldt University Berlin, the University of Potsdam and Duke University in the US. During her studies she worked for the NGO “Schools without Racism – Schools with Courage” as a consultant.
Malisa was able to gain first experiences in project management in a DFG project on the immigration policies of the OECD countries at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB). There she worked as a research assistant for four years and developed an index for measuring the restrictiveness of immigration legislation.
She earned her doctorate and taught at the Chair of Comparative Politics at the European University Viadrina in the field of party research and immigration and integration policy and worked in a project of the Thyssen-Foundation on the influence of the radical right in Central and Eastern Europe. Her research interests are the role and influence of populist radical right mobilization on migration politics and policies, as well as on the quality of democracy and social cohesion.
