The trialogue series "Who bears responsibility for the future of democracy?" was a joint initiative of the Foundation "Remembrance, Responsibility and Future" and the Berlin Governance Platform. In three one-day events
we discussed in particular the role of business in an open, controversial and enriching way for all.
The first event in the series took place on September 17, 2018 at the Allianz Forum in Berlin. Together with the input providers and participants, we identified and discussed the fundamental values on which democracy and the market economy are based. Are they systematically different? Are central principles such as justice and profit maximization in conflict with each other? Do market-based systems need democracies and civil society at all? But also: What connects business, politics and civil society, what are the central commonalities, on which goals do they agree?
