Webinar: "Driving Climate Implementation and Financing the Energy Transition in the G20"

On 24th September 2024 as part of New York Climate week programm, Climate Transparency partners from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and Indonesia presented their preliminary findings on the current state of climate finance and the progress of policy implementation in their countries. For this analysis, the Climate Policy Implementation Check’s methodology was used to identify and analyze gaps between targets and implementation.

During the event following questions were addressed:

  • What is the overall state of finance and the implementation of a fast and fair energy transition in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia?
  • How to accelerate this transition and increase accountability?
  • What gaps have been identified so far?
  • What can civil society do to address these gaps?

The assessment of financing needs for a fast and fair energy transition is especially important ahead of the upcoming NDCs update. Through their work, national experts and the partners of Climate Transparency increase stakeholder awareness and promote peer learning among partner countries.

Impressions from the event:

The event highlighted key insights on the status of climate finance regulations in these countries and explored existing gaps in implementation. The country experts shared recommendations on how to further enhance implementation, such as improving compliance and accountability mechanisms and facilitating easier access to finance. They also identified common challenges and summarized the discussion by reflecting on the role of civil society in addressing gaps.

The subsequent Q&A session demonstrated strong interest in our research methodology and its practical implications for policymakers and stakeholders.
