Since 2022, Laura Gerards Iglesias has been leading projects at the Berlin Governance Platform for the initial implementation of municipal development councils throughout Germany, currently in cooperation with the municipalities of Cottbus, Duisburg, Frankfurt (Oder) and the joint municipality of Meinersen. 

Laura is a trained mediator and studied European Studies and International Affairs in Maastricht, Paris, Berlin and Geneva. After her studies, she developed a strategy for the inclusion of local women's groups in peace processes together with the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) in Geneva as part of her Mercator Fellowship. Subsequently, Laura coordinated two local dialogue processes for HD in Ukraine with a focus on organised women's groups and civil society from both sides of the conflict line. She also gained experience as a mediator, trainer for peer empowerment among women and developed a digital training programme for teams.
