While the participants in the first group have already been able to settle in Germany since their move in May 2023, the Re:Match team prepared the matching and relocation of the second group of Ukrainian asylum seekers from Poland to German municipalities. The relocation took place at the end of June. This second relocation allowed us to implement initial learnings and take further important steps in the piloting of needs-based matching and relocation.
What happens next?
Relocation programmes operate in an environment characterised by conflict and constantly changing conditions. In addition, with every step we take, we gather new learnings that need to be applied in the further course of the project. Between the second and third group, the Re:Match team therefore takes time again for a preliminary evaluation and adaptation of the communication materials and for making contact with other NGOs through which we can inform Ukrainian asylum seekers about our project.
In August and September, we will match and relocate another group of people seeking protection and local authorities. At the same time, our team is preparing for the comprehensive evaluation of this year's project implementation. Against the backdrop of migration policy developments at EU level, the evaluation report will also address the question of the scalability of our pilot project for an EU-wide distribution and reception mechanism and the applicability of relocation via matching to other groups seeking protection.
