Cities are important places for understanding migrant integration and refugee protection around the world. Although nation states generally claim authority over the selection and reception of migrants and refugees, cities are usually the places where migrants and refugees integrate into the social fabric of society, where they participate in economic and social life and develop a sense of belonging. In some cases, many cities even protect and integrate residents who are denied legal status by nation states. "Cities of Migration Solidarity: An International Dialogue" is an interactive event that brings together a group of international experts, practitioners and policy makers to present different approaches and experiences on the capacity of cities to support vulnerable migrants and refugees. Our aim is to raise awareness of the current state of Solidarity Cities around the world. Accordingly, this event will provide an opportunity for speakers and the audience to network and exchange ideas on the current and future challenges for cities to become welcoming and inclusive communities.
