With Re:Match, the relocation of asylum seekers within the EU was successfully implemented for the first time using an algorithm-based matching process. In the first project year 2023, 78 Ukrainian asylum seekers in Poland were matched directly with six German cities and supported in the practical implementation of their relocation. An evaluation of the protection seekers relocated in 2023 is carried out on an ongoing basis. Building on the Interim Evaluation and the 6-Month Follow-Up Evaluation , the 12-month evaluation report now published presents new valuable results and findings on how data-based matching of protection seekers and cities can successfully promote integration. The positive trend identified in the 6-month evaluation continues in the evaluation after 12 months:

  • 88% of respondents confirmed that participation in Re:Match was a good decision even after 12 months (compared to 80% after 6 months). This underlines the lasting effectiveness of the programme.
  • After one year, 63% of participants agreed that the Match municipalities were still a good fit for them. (In comparison; after 6 months the figure was 58%). The report also deals with how those who disagreed with this sentiment integrate and value Re:Match.
  • The steady increase in the participants' sense of belonging from the 6th to the 12th month was also impressive. The report breaks down which areas of the sense of belonging improved particularly quickly.
  • Participants rate language courses as essential for their independence and integration. Their success in language acquisition is above average and has a positive impact on their integration into the labour market.

Re:Match is being evaluated in collaboration with the project partner Pairity. All results in this report are based on data from participants and cities collected through questionnaires, interviews and evaluation workshops.
