Within the two-year project period (2018 to 2020), the TU Berlin, in collaboration with the Berlin Governance Platform, organized four trialoge and four trialogical project groups on the urban policy challenges of mobility, immigration, housing and tourism.
Berlin is growing unexpectedly dynamically. The city's infrastructure is not yet prepared for this. The increasing number of conflicts over land use clearly shows that the design of the city requires a productive and understanding-oriented debate between different social interest groups in order to develop sustainable solutions. The major transformations caused by urbanization and climate change also lead to new demands on science and universities. In addition to researching the current state, the problem situations and the development of viable future scenarios, it is necessary to develop concepts, initiatives, instruments and measures that help shape a necessary transformation.
For the future of Berlin, it is important to adapt the transportation infrastructure to future needs, to implement solutions for the integration of immigrants, to make the increasing tourism sustainable, and to provide residents with housing that meets their needs. Thetransdisciplinary project "New Urban Agenda Berlin" aimed to contribute to the understanding of current and future challenges of the growing city and aimed at the communication-oriented discussion of different social interest groups. By means of trialogues® and trialogical project groups, with the participation of all stakeholders- from politics and administration, organized civil society, local business and science - concrete transdisciplinary strategies for action were developed and new impulses for Berlin's urban society were set.
Within the two-yearproject period (2018 to 2020), the TU Berlin, in collaboration with the Berlin Governance Platform, organizedhosted fourTrialogues® and four trialogical project groups on the urban policy challenges of mobility, immigration, housing and tourism. The entire transdisciplinary process - from the definition of a field of action or a research question, to the development of a concrete project design, to the implementation of the project - was actively supported. The project uncovered current research needs, generated new insights and new knowledge through understanding in order to derive options for action and to further develop and test these in model projects.
Predecessor project:
Within the framework of the trialogue series "Aufbruch Stadt: Für zukünftige Infrastrukturen" (2016), actors from urban society discussed with scientists* in order to arrive at transdisciplinary oriented questions and project ideas. Transdisciplinary Trialogues were jointly developed by the Technische Universität Berlin and the Berlin Governance Platform in order to create a suitable method for the much-discussed demands for social connectivity of research through transdisciplinary work. Within the framework of the trialogue series, actors from urban society discussed with scientists* in order to arrive at transdisciplinarily oriented questions and project ideas. Over a period of eleven months (February 2016 - December 2016), a total of four trialogues were prepared and conducted for the TU Berlin as part of the project.
More information about the joint activities to expand and promote the transdisciplinary research principle at TU Berlin can be found here. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christine Ahrend, Vice President of the TU Berlin, talks about the added value of trialogues for transdisciplinary research here.
