Since January 2022, Laura Gerards Iglesias is leading a pilot project in the field of “Municipal Development Councils” and furthermore coordinates additional tasks in the same area at the HUMBOLDT-VIADRINA Governance Platform.

Laura studied European Studies and International Affairs in Maastricht, Paris, Berlin and Geneva and focussed her research on approaches for the inclusion of disadvantaged groups in peace and mediation processes. During her studies she worked as a trainer for peer empowerment at universities and institutes and developed a digital training program for teams in organizations. After graduating, together with the Centre for Humanitarian Diaogue (HD) in Geneva she designed a strategy for the inclusion of local women’s groups in peace processes as part of her Mercator Fellowship. Laura then coordinated two local dialogue processes for HD in Ukraine, focusing on organized women’s groups and civil society from both sides of the conflict line.
